I made this cake for my mothers birthday more than 40 years ago in an upstairs apartment with no air conditioner. The open windows didn't help cool me off. It was hot that October day.
I pulled the cake out of the oven in our tiny kitchen and after the cake cooled I started putting on the frosting. The layers began to slid, I used toothpicks to keep the cake layers from sliding off. They were removed with we arrived at my mother and dads home 20 miles away.
